THEO 231 - Freedom in Paul’s Letters 3 hours This course will provide an overview of the concepts of freedom and social responsibility as conveyed in Paul’s letters (especially his four major letters) in both historical contexts of antiquity and their usage in Western politics, from the medieval to modern periods. Great attention is given to the concepts of freedom and divine favor in Roman religion as the background for Paul’s audiences. Interpretive reading, critical thinking, and discussion will be major components, in addition to written interpretation assignments.
This course will satisfy the core area requirement in theology.
