LIS 703 - Organization of Knowledge 3 hours Provides an overview of principles, methods, and systems in the organization of materials and information in a variety of library and related settings. Introduces at a basic level the use and interpretation of Resource Description & Access (RDA), subject headings (Library of Congress Subject Headings), classification (Dewey Decimal Classification & Library of Congress Classification), authority control, and Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC21). Introduces foundational concepts of knowledge representation and taxonomies. Offered in fall, spring, and summer.
Prerequisite(s): LIS 701 (or concurrent enrollment)
