The dual Master of Library and Information Science and Master of Arts in Youth Literature degree has been created to meet the needs of persons preparing for a career in youth literature and librarianship within a foundation of ethics, social responsibility, and the philosophy of radical inclusion. Students with a dual Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) and Master of Arts in Youth Literature (MAYL) will be equipped to create, review, analyze, select, acquire, organize, manage, store, and retrieve youth literature and apply its use in various professional settings, including libraries, schools, publishing, and marketing.

Elective Courses
Elective Courses (18 total hours of electives are required to complete the dual MLIS/MAYL degree). The courses listed below are suggestions; other courses may be selected as electives. • MLIS students may use six MAYL credit hours, and any credit hours that are cross-listed between LIS and MAYL course prefixes. All MLIS courses are cross-listed with LIS courses EXCEPT • MAYL students may count as electives courses from the MLIS Youth Services Certificate course list in addition to the MAYL course listing, earning the MLIS, the Youth Services Certificate, and the MAYL. All MAYL courses count toward the MLIS EXCEPT |
