Special Education Minor and LBS1 Endorsement

The undergraduate licensure programs in the School of Education provide candidates the opportunity to complete courses leading to a Special Education Minor and Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS1) endorsement. A total of six courses are required to earn both the minor and the LBS1 endorsement.

Candidates may choose to complete these required courses as undergraduate electives or after graduation as a graduate student-at-large.

To qualify for the LBS1 endorsement, candidates must pass the Special Education Content Test #290.

Required Courses for the Special Education Minor with Entitlement to an LBS1 Endorsement
For candidates pursuing a Professional Educator License through the Elementary, Secondary, or K-12 education BA programs or a Secondary Education Program, the following courses are required:

  • SEDU 322 - Exceptional Students: Characteristics and the Special Education Process (3 credits)
  • SEDU 322 F - Field Work - 25 hours (0 credits)
  • SEDU 356 - Collaboration and Adaptation in General Education Settings (3 credits)
  • SEDU 359 - Managing Challenging Behavior (3 credits)
  • SEDU 370 - Planning and Assessment in Special Education (3 credits)
  • SEDU 374 - Curriculum Methods for Students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities (3 credits)
  • SEDU 374 F - Field Work - 25 hours (0 credits)
  • SEDU 376 - Academic Methods for Elementary and Middle Level Students with Disabilities (3 credits)
