The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program is a fully online program designed for the student who wants to prepare for a career in accountancy but does not have an undergraduate accounting background. Although not required for eligibility, a CPA review course after graduation is strongly recommended as final preparation for the examination.

A candidate for the MSA degree will normally need to complete a minimum of 10 courses. Students who have successfully completed equivalent course work at another accredited graduate program may request to have two courses (maximum of six credits) transferred and applied toward degree requirements.

Program Pre-requisite

For admission to the program, students should have completed a three credit-hour course equivalent to an undergraduate or graduate financial accounting course from an accredited institution, earning a grade of B or better, and subject to departmental approval. Students who do not meet this admission requirement may elect to complete ACCT 503 at Dominican prior to starting the MSA program requirements. This course is tuition free and self-paced. Students may also elect to complete a financial accounting course at Dominican (ACCT 101) or at another institution, subject to departmental approval.

Program Requirements: MSA Pathway

The MSA program offers two pathways and can accommodate a wide range of professional goals within the accounting industry. The Standard MSA Pathway is suited for those looking to acquire a comprehensive founding in accounting, focusing on critical areas such as data analytics, financial reporting, auditing, business law, and taxation, all underscored by ethical principles. This pathway may include an optional internship, providing practical experience in both public and private accounting sectors. With a curriculum designed to make graduates highly competitive in the accounting profession, the 30-hour pathway provides a strong foundation for career preparation.

MSA Plus

For students with a specific interest in exploring professional certifications in accounting, the MSA Plus offers an advanced learning experience. The MSA Plus goes beyond the foundational 10-course curriculum offered in the Standard MSA Pathway by introducing more specialized courses. Specifically, the following courses are designed to serve as a career catalyst for accounting professionals seeking to complete the Business Analysis and Reporting section of the CPA exam and gain expertise in financial reporting.
