The Bachelor of Professional Studies in Disability Advocacy trains practitioners to identify and work to eliminate obstacles facing people with disabilities. Students will study disability as both a biological and social construct, with a particular focus on the legal and social service support systems that support, and often fail to support, people with disabilities in the United States. Consistent with Dominican University’s longstanding commitment to social justice, students are required to complete a course in professional ethics on top of at least one ethics unit in each class. Courses are conveniently offered in the evening at Triton College or online in an accelerated 8-week format.
Graduates of the program will be prepared to work on behalf of individuals with disabilities in legal, educational, or social services settings. Job opportunities for program graduates include developmental disabilities case manager, ADA compliance specialist and rehabilitation counselor. In addition, the rigorous coursework will prepare students for graduate or professional school.
