Food Science and Nutrition, B.A./B.S.


The food science and nutrition major is designed for persons interested in general positions in the food industry that may include activities such as food product development, quality assurance monitoring, or consumer education programs.

A minimum of 15 hours in the major field must be completed at Dominican.

Freshmen interested in this major should consult with an advisor in the department prior to registration and take CHEM 101  and CHEM 104  and ENGL 101  and ENGL 102  in their freshman year.

Majors in food science and nutrition may elect to earn the Bachelor of Science degree or the Bachelor of Arts degree. Major requirements are the same for both degrees.

Institute of Food Technologists Requirements:


For those students interested in positions as food scientists, specific course work is required to meet the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Undergraduate Curriculum Minimum Standards for Degrees in Food Science.
