The mission of the Fashion design and merchandising program is to provide students with an environment in which they can develop and nurture creativity, gain aesthetic, intellectual, and professional competence in the Fashion field. The department is committed to cultivating a humanistic and ethical understanding of fashion and preparing students to engage in efforts to promote social justice, equity, and fairness as fashion professionals.
The fashion program offers major and minor programs in fashion design and fashion merchandising.
Fashion students can also study abroad in all three major European fashion capitals with programs at the Paris American Academy, Milan’s Instituto di Moda Burgo, and Dominican University’s semester in London.

Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced, Senior Thesis Independent Research or Creative Investigation is a course in which students collaborate with faculty mentors on an ongoing faculty research project or conduct an independent project under the guidance of a faculty member. This directed undergraduate research or creative investigation culminates in a conference presentation, journal article, or other creative/scholarly project.
