LAS 494 - Ethics and the University3 hours Today’s world presents enormous moral challenges. Yet our diversity—religious, ethnic, economic, etc.—renders shared moral perspectives on and judgments about “the good life” difficult to achieve. Given this situation, this seminar explores the crucial role of the university as a community of moral as well as intellectual discourse. Special attention is given to liberal learning as a possible way of moving beyond “moral isolationism”, “lazy pluralism”, and “bumper-sticker ethics” and towards more satisfactory answers to the question: How ought we to live?
