HIST 368 - Gender and Urban Life3 hours This course addresses the relationship between urban America and ideas of gender as well as race and class. Through readings and discussion, students examine how the urban experience both reflects and influences cultural definitions of gender and sexuality. Critical themes under investigation include the commercialization of sexuality, the idea of the city as a place for personal freedom and institutional oppression for both men and women, and the city as a dangerous place for women.
This course may be applied to the United States history concentration.
