CRIM 372 - Law and Society3 hours Advanced analysis of the legal order from a critical, sociological perspective. The rise of modern law and its relationship to other social institutions is treated, with consideration given to social theories of legality and current controversies within the field. Examines conceptions of American citizenship through analysis of the African-American experience and issues of civic inclusion, including review of historically important trials, civil rights organizing, and contemporary racial issues in the criminal legal system.
