SOC 409 - Contemporary Social Theory3 hours A critical examination of social theory from the Chicago school to the present. Consideration will be given to interactionist, ethnomethodological, structuralist, critical, feminist, rational choice, and postmodern perspectives, with special emphasis on the legacy of Robert Merton, C. Wright Mills, and Erving Goffman, as well as Dorothy Smith, Anthony Giddens, and Patricia Hill Collins.
Prerequisite(s): SOC 110 and junior standing, or consent of instructor.
