HIST 307 - Voices from the Past: Introduction to Oral History3 hours Oral history is the structured collection of living people’s testimony about their own lives and experiences. It is an excellent research tool for understanding the perspectives of those whose voices are excluded from other recorded forms of history. Oral history can also provide important personal interpretations of historical events in the recent past. Using oral history and ethnographic case studies, this course examines the purpose, theory, and practice of oral history. Students will conduct their own oral history interviews as part of this course.
Prerequisite(s): One history class. Recommended for all history majors.
