HIST 334 - 20th Century American Popular Culture3 hours This class offers students an introduction to the main currents of American popular culture of the 20th century. In addition to identifying the varied aspects of American popular culture, and tracking the development of its many manifestations, this class will demonstrate how these aspects reflected and were shaped by historical trends and events. We will also consider how entertainment, technology, consumerism, and mass communication mold the individual’s perceptions of his or her world. Some of the topics covered include baseball, the blues, jazz, country and western music, rock and roll, the radio, television, and the comic strip.
This course may be applied to the United States history concentration.

Prerequisite(s): ENGL 102 or consent of department.
This course will satisfy the history core area requirement.
