LAS 258 - The Road to Africa3 hours Split by its triple heritage, modern Africa has been a product of three major influences: indigenous traditions, Islamic culture, and Western culture. The synthesis of these forces determines, in large part, the situation in contemporary African states. In this course, the Igbos of sub-Saharan Africa will be studied as an example of how one particular ethnic group has absorbed, balanced, and reconciled these divergent traditions and produced its own unique identity in the midst of the larger society.
This seminar will satisfy the multicultural core requirement.
