BWS 241 - African-Americans and the Media3 hours This course assesses the presentation of African-Americans in the media (popular literature, periodicals, radio, film, TV, and the internet) and the impact of the mass media in the African-American community. Issues of race and ethnicity are integrated with discussions of media responsibility as well as questions of representation and accessibility. The implications of new media technologies to these issues will be a key aspect of our discussion. Students will develop projects that use media to bridge cultural perspectives in an effort to offer varied and innovative approaches to presenting African-American culture and identity in the media.
