BIOL 494 - Topics in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine3 hours This is the second part of a two-semester series in understanding the pathophysiology of diseases. The course looks at the patient’s side of a disease in the patient’s own words. The main focus is on how a patient presents information to the physician. From knowledge learned in BIOL 493 , the student will use his or her critical thinking to take patient complaints and determine a diagnosis. Examples include an approach to headaches, chest pain, abdominal pain, fever, back pain, and others. Also included is the business and professional side of medicine, which will cover topics such as professionalism, ethics, family issues, legal-medical problems, and medical records.
Prerequisite(s): BIOL 493 .
