HNSM 452 - Love and Liberation Beyond Suffering? 3 Credit Hours
In many tales of suffering, there comes the unsteady next step of those who have survived. Our question will be this: How can suffering be acknowledged and transmuted into a new way of living? We will bear witness to stories of deep pain and loss, and our question will be is there love and liberation beyond suffering? We will walk alongside Job from the Book of Job, Shakespeare’s King Lear, Celie from The Color Purple, the characters from Stephen Sondheim’s Into the Woods, and Tita from Like Water for Chocolate.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the honors progam and senior status.
