HNBQ 230 - Immigration: What’s Happening: What should we do and why?

3 Credit Hours
One of the most complex and divisive issues throughout the history of the US has been immigration. In light of current global political, economic, and climate realities, migration flows are predicted to continually increase in the coming decades. This course will give a brief overview of global migration, the reasons people leave their homelands, and how they are received during and at the end of their journeys. We will learn the history of immigration to the US, read migrants’ stories of their journeys, and learn about the immigration legal system. We will explore and analyze the arguments for and against different immigration policies, and apply different ethical frameworks for whether and how to receive people who are “on the move.”

Prerequisite(s): Honors program students only.
