FREN 226 - Francophone Literature in Translation

3 Credit Hours
This course is an exploration of Francophone literature in translation. Through selected readings from francophone authors such as Assia Djebar, Leila Sebbar, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Driss Chraibi, Andrée Chedid, and Amin Maalouf  we will study several French-speaking countries, particularly in North Africa and the Middle East.  Through critical readings, class discussions, and written reflections and analyses, we will research  the colonial and post-colonial historical and cultural contexts that led to the emergence of Francophonie and the Littérature Francophone.  This course will be conducted in English.  

This course will satisfy the core area requirement in literature or social justice and sustainability.

This course will satisfy the core requirement in multicultural studies.
