HNSM 182 - Personal Identity and Moral Responsibility: Thoughts and Passions 3 Credit Hours This seminar will explore the concepts of personal identity and moral responsibility as they are revealed in Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. Students will examine how the characters of the novel struggle with their own identities and the moral dilemmas they face. Throughout the semester, we will examine the choices individuals make and the consequences of those choices on their own lives and the lives of others. Students will delve into the philosophical and existential questions addressed in the novel, such as the existence of God, free will, and the nature of good and evil. With The Brothers Karamazov as our guide, the focus will be on critical thinking, ethical discussions, and literary analysis, as students navigate their own paths of self-discovery.
