FREN 240 - French Life and Literature in Film

3 Credit Hours
The vibrant French cinema offers fresh perspectives on classic works of French literature and interprets everyday French life through provocative and progressive lenses. The global reach of the French language also provides unique insights into Francophone life in Africa, Canada and the Caribbean. Students will study translations of 19th and 20th century novels, plays, memoirs and texts, then analyze films inspired by these works. Discussions framed in social and historical contexts will afford a truly immersive experience. Taught in English, all films are in French with English subtitles. 

This course will satisfy the core area requirement in literature or humanities and arts.
