IM 885 - Data Mining 3 Credit Hours Data mining is the theory and practice of discovering structure, patterns, trends, and relationships in complex data sets in order to transform raw data into useful information and actionable knowledge. Data mining is a multi-disciplinary methodology that includes statistics, machine learning, and information management. Data mining is widely used by organizations to solve problems, mitigate risks, and improve products and services. This course will cover the major concepts in data mining, information extraction, pattern classification, and prediction modeling. Students will work with various tools, techniques, and processes for both unstructured and semi-structured data gaining hands-on, practical experience in solving problems with real-world data.
Prerequisite(s): IM 704 and IM 720 or other experience programming in Python and approval by the instructor.
