EDUA 589 - Cognition, Learning, and Assessment

3 Credit Hours
Candidates explore issues of cognition, development, learning, and assessment through the lenses of neuro and cognitive science. Throughout  this course, candidates examine how children, from pre-school thru adolescence, learn and grow developmentally. The examination encompasses understanding how community and cultural assets impact children and adolescents, strategies for assessing learning outcomes, and utilization of assessment to inform effective teaching. A particular focus is placed on educational psychology,  developmental characteristics, and learning/brain theory, exploring their connections to student self-regulation, motivation,classroom management, and the implementation of assessment  for learning. May not be taken by students who have completed EDU 520 or EDUA 520.
