SWK 513 - Human Behavior in The Social Environment 3 Credit Hours
This generalist course is the first of two courses that review various theories about human development and human behavior. A life course perspective is used that views development as lifelong, multidimensional, and multidirectional and examines the biophysical, psychological, and social domains’ influences on human behavior, using the person-and-environment perspective. Major developmental theories in each of the domains will be examined and analyzed as they relate to individuals,families, groups, organizations, and societies. The course stresses the importance of attending to the interrelatedness, and reciprocity, of contextual factors in human behavior. By the end of the course, students will understand how the theories of Human Behavior and the Social Environment underlie a social worker’s perception of his/her clients. Students will also be able to apply the concepts of Human Behavior and the Social Environment to their engagement, assessment, intervention, and evaluation of the clients they serve.
Prerequisite(s): Psychology major and senior standing
