POSC 280 - Public Administration

3 Credit Hours
Public administration in its simple form is the study of the principles, organization, and operation of what has become known as the bureaucracy and how it implements, impedes, or creates public policy. When President Trump initiates a travel ban, it is the bureaucracy that must execute it. When President Biden says he will forgive student loans, it is the bureaucracy that must implement it. At a much deeper level, which is the level we will be diving to, it raises fundamental questions about what is public and what is administration. What is the relationship between the administration of policy and politics? Who are the people within the administration? How do they interact, make decisions, and provide services? We will explore these questions and many others that move between the philosophical and the practical.

This course will satisfy the core area requirement in social sciences or science literacy.
