HIST 320 - From Slavery to Freedom: The African American Experience From 1619 to 1877 3 Credit Hours This course examines and analyzes the variety of economic, social, cultural, and religious experiences in African American communities from the colonial era to the end of Reconstruction. This course focuses on the construction of a distinct African American culture and identity in the face of slavery, the complexity of the free African American community in the North, and the persistent political struggle for freedom and equality found in the actions, rhetoric, and faith of African American men and women during this period. This course may be applied to the United States history concentration.
