From World War II and the decades of Cold War that followed, American culture, economics, and social values reflected a nation whose citizens enjoyed tremendous economic prosperity, witnessed amazing technological advancement, and experienced profound social change. What did these decades mean? How do we understand them in relation to earlier ideas of American destiny? What do they mean in the post-Cold War era?
