HIST 380 - Contemporary Africa 3 Credit Hours This course analyzes the history of Africa from the early 1960’s when the majority of African countries became “independent” to the present. Topics include the legacy of colonial rule, neo-colonialism, identity crises and civil wars, public health, the place of Africa in the new international order, the transition toward democracy, and the impact of globalization. This course may be applied to the African history concentration.

Prerequisite(s): ENGL 101 or CRWS 101
This course will satisfy the core area requirement in history or humanities and arts.
