ITAL 505 - 20th Century Italian Literature

3 Credit Hours
This course is an examination of Italian literature of the 20th century through a study of representative selections of prose and poetry.  Luigi Pirandello and Italo Svevo mark the beginning of a national literature.  The poetics of Eugenio Montale and Giuseppe Ungaretti provide perspective on the two world wars.  Writers in the latter half of the century like Italo Calvino and Natalia Ginzburg highlight themes of the newly industrialized Italy.

Prerequisite(s): Registration requires consent of department. For graduate level students only.
