LAS 260 - Life in the Natural World: Ecofeminism and Other Intersecting Concerns 3 Credit Hours In his encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si, Pope Francis refers to the earth as mother and sister – as feminine. In doing so, the Pope accedes to a long tradition that links women with the earth. Pope Francis writes, “This sister now cries out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use and abuse of the goods with which God has endowed her. We have come to see ourselves as her lords and masters, entitled to plunder her at will.”
