LAS 204 - Intersectional Environmentalism 3 Credit Hours As climate change continues to capture the world’s attention and questions are raised about how to approach this problem, it’s worth considering how people talk about the environment. How do we imagine and discuss our relationship to the outside world, and how does this engagement reflect societal issues. This course will examine how the environment can be used as a metaphor for social engagement. We will examine a variety of texts–articles, novels, TV shows, films, photography–to see how the use of nature sheds light on issues of class, race and gender.
Prerequisite(s): Completion of a first-year seminar.
