BWS 227 - History of Pan-Africanism 3 Credit Hours The purpose of this entry-level course is to introduce students the general history of Pan- Africanism by emphasizing the global links and interactions among members of the African diaspora (Africa, United States, and the Caribbean) from the 1900s to the present. No prior knowledge of African, Caribbean or African- American history will be required before taking this course. The overriding themes of the course will include, but not limited to, the significance of Pan-Africanism, the Pan-African congress, Garveyism, and the Black transnational practices. Race, gender, religion, ethnicity, and age will be among the categories of historical analysis in the course.
This course will satisfy the core area requirement in history.
This course will satisfy the core requirement in multicultural studies.
