ITAL 503 - The Medici: Patronage and the Arts 3 Credit Hours Italy’s transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance was propelled by the Medici and other prominent Italian families. In this environment of great intellectual and economic prosperity, Florence was transformed into a center for culture that forged modern thinking in banking, philosophy, architecture, and art. This course will study Medici patronage alongside the seminal authors of Humanist philosophy and the most prominent artists of the Italian Renaissance as it spanned from 1350 to 1600.
Prerequisite(s): Registration requires consent of department. For graduate level students only.
