HIST 232 - Law and Order in the Premodern Mediterranean

3 Credit Hours
This course is a survey of the concepts of Law and Order in the Ancient and Premodern Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and European worlds. We will examine societies’ construction and application of legal principles for the goals of achieving peace and order. Special attention will be given to the influence of these concepts and the implementation on the cultural, social, political, and economic positions of historical actors. Students will learn to critically read, view, and discuss textual and material primary sources, and modern secondary sources, and to develop and prove independent arguments in formal academic papers.

Prerequisite(s): CRWS 101  or ENGL 101  

This course will satisfy the core area requirement in history.
