SOC 244 - The Sociology of Health and Illness 3 Credit Hours This course explores social production of health and illness. Utilizing critical perspectives, the course focuses on the social determinants of health and disease, the social behavior of patients and health care providers, the social functions of health organizations and institutions, the social patterns of the utilization of health services, the relationship of health care delivery systems to other social institutions, and social policies toward health. The course includes diverse perspectives and intersectional analysis.
This course will satisfy the core area requirement in social sciences.
