SWK 631 - Health Disparities and Social Determinants of Health 3 Credit Hours This course aims to provide students with an understanding of social determinants of health that lead to health disparities with an emphasis on medically underserved communities. As social workers, it is important to understand and acknowledge the serious and complex effects of health inequities which can include limited health care access, disparities in treatment, and adverse health outcomes. Students will then apply this understanding of health disparities and begin to identify and examine the important role that social workers play in the healthcare field; specifically in integrated health settings and on interdisciplinary teams. Throughout the course, students will apply a critical lens to analyze the complexities of integrated health care and health disparities.
Prerequisite(s): SWK 510 and SWK 550 or advanced standing.
