THEA 190 - Performance Techniques for People-Centered Careers 3 Credit Hours This course combines vocal and physical theatre performance methods with self-care practices and is geared toward helping those students who plan to engage in people-centered/care-based careers, such as nursing, social work, education, communications, law/criminology, psychology, etc. Students will learn vocal exercises and tension release techniques commonly used by actors to allow them to successfully perform demanding roles over long periods of time. In conjunction, students will explore transferable theatre skills, such as active listening, empathetic responses, and effective use of body language, as well as be introduced to a variety of self-care approaches in order to aid personal wellness while helping others.
This course will satisfy the core area requirement in fine arts.
