SWK 630 - Social Work and Health

3 Credit Hours
This course is designed to teach students how social work practice occurs in health care settings. Assessment of clients and client systems and interventions are expounded on to include medical treatment, physical functioning, and socio-cultural meaning assigned to illness. Students will learn how medical issues and illness impact identify formation, relationships, and coping skills. The importance of interdisciplinary professional relationships within the health care system will be emphasized. This course will provide students with knowledge, skills, and abilities to understand the interrelationship between health policy, health care systems, poverty and oppression, and the role social workers can play at both the macro and micro levels of practice.
