POSC 268 - Politics of Asia 3 Credit Hours This class is designed as a survey course of the domestic politics of the Asian region, including East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. The course reviews the historical development of government and politics in Asia by looking at precolonial systems of government, encounters with the West, colonialism, and national liberation movements. Then the course begins a survey of politics in selected Asian countries. Thematic topics, including agrarian revolution, communism and post-communism, developmental state, military rule, and democratization, are also covered through studies of various Asian countries. From the class, students will get acquainted with politics of the most economically vibrant region in the world for the 21st century.
This course will satisfy the core area requirement in social sciences.
