HIST 226 - The Modern Middle East

3 Credit Hours
This course introduces students to the general history of the modern Middle East from the end of World War I to the present. Topics discussed will include the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the subsequent remapping of the Middle East, the place of oil in the local economies, the Iranian Revolution, the transition toward democratization, the Iraq War, and the causes and consequences of the Arab Spring. No prior knowledge of the Middle East is required to take this course. This course may be applied to the global history concentration.

Prerequisite(s): ENGL 101  or CRWS 101  

This course will satisfy the core area requirement in history.
