BIOL 273 - Neurobiology 4 Credit Hours The focus of this course is on the molecular and cellular aspects of the brain. We will focus on the basic structure of the vertebrate nervous system with emphasis on the key players (channels, receptors, neurotransmitters, second messengers) that dictate the function of neurons. We will explore topics in neural signaling, synaptic transmission, plasticity, brain disorders, gene therapy, stem cell therapy and evolution of the nervous system. The laboratory portion of the course focuses on gene expression in model systems in the context of learning and memory. Lecture and laboratory.
