SOC 248 - Gender and Sexualities in Latin America Credit Hours 3 This course is an introduction to issues and themes surrounding sexualities and genders within Latin America. The course reviews the literature, explores basic theoretical frameworks, and provides a historical grounding of gendered processes and their relationship to sexuality. This interdisciplinary class bring an intersectional lens to examine how gender and sexuality are structured and experienced in different contexts and regions of Latin America. It examines diverse perspectives including pre-Colombian Amerind and African traditions, as well as the ways colonialism, genocide, slavery, patriarchy, and racism influence understandings of gender and sexuality in Latin American countries.
