MUS 266 - Blues and Jazz Appreciation Credit Hours 3 The blues is arguably the most important art form to have developed entirely in America. Along with minstrelsy, spirituals, ragtime, and jazz, it forms the backbone of all contemporary American vernacular music; bluegrass, country and western, rock, R&B, gospel, and hip-hop all show the imprint of the blues. This course studies blues and jazz as musical forms, poetic genres, philosophies, and expressions of deep historical cultural meanings as a part of African-American culture in the 20th century and beyond.
This course will satisfy the core area requirement in fine arts.
