Special Education Minor and LBS1 Endorsement

Special Education

The licensure programs enable candidates to complete one course ( SEDU 322 - Exceptional Students: Characteristics and the Special Education Process ) toward the Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement. In total, five courses are required for the LBS I endorsement. Candidates can choose to complete the subsequent required classes as undergraduate electives or can choose to complete them upon graduation as a graduate student-at-large.

Candidates must take two Special Education Content Tests to earn the LBS1 Endorsement: LBSI (#155) and the Special Education General Curriculum Test (#163).

The following sequence of courses are required for a candidate to earn an LBS I endorsement:

Required Courses for the Special Education minor with entitlement to an LBS1 Endorsement for those pursuing a Professional Educator License through the Elementary major or a Secondary Education Program:

• SEDU 322 - Exceptional Students: Characteristics and the Special Education Process
    
• SEDU 356 - Collaboration and Adaptation in General Education Settings   
• SEDU 359 - Managing Challenging Behavior
    
• SEDU 370 - Planning and Assessment in Special Education
    
• SEDU 374 - Curriculum Methods for Students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities

  SEDU 376 - Academic Methods for Elementary and Middle Level Students with Disabilities
     

Required courses for the Special Education minor for those not seeking an LBSI endorsement:

• SEDU 322 - Exceptional Students: Characteristics and the Special Education Process  
• SEDU 356 - Collaboration and Adaptation in General Education Settings  
• SEDU 359 - Managing Challenging Behavior  
•  SEDU 370 - Planning and Assessment in Special Education   

Plus additional electives totaling 6 hours:

• SEDU 372 - Reading and Learning Strategies: Instruction in Middle and High School Content Areas  
• SEDU 374 - Curriculum Methods for Students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities  
• SEDU 376 - Academic Methods for Elementary and Middle Level Students with Disabilities  
• HS 320 - Disability Studies  
• HS 322 - Disability Support Services
