Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Rosary College of Arts and Sciences

French & Francophone Studies has three principal objectives: 1) to provide students an understanding and command of the linguistic structures of the French language, which will enable students to speak and write correctly and fluently in French whether on the job or for personal enrichment; 2) to foster in students curiosity, awareness and appreciation of the many francophone cultures in France and beyond so they will continue to explore these interests as lifelong learners; and 3) to instill in students empathy, commitment to the larger community and engagement in social justice, in addition to honing their logical reasoning and critical thinking skills through the study of French and Francophone civilization and culture. French & Francophone majors establish a foundation for careers in business, law, education, communications, government, and international outreach and diplomacy. They are also prepared for the rigors of graduate studies. The French & Francophone Studies division encourages students to participate in study abroad opportunities. Internships and community-based learning projects are available to interested students. Majors and minors receive support to sit for the DELF/DALF exam offered by the French Ministry of Education, and their scores serve as an internationally recognized assessment of their level of French language fluency.
