Students are offered a variety of courses that introduce them to the wealth of information that psychologists have discovered about behavior and mental processes. Psychologists have studied nearly every behavior in which human beings engage. As the science of behavior, psychology includes the study of both human and animal behavior in laboratory and real-world settings. Students collect and analyze research data as a way of understanding the methods that psychologists employ to answer the significant questions that attract us to the study of ourselves and our behavior. Students may major or minor in psychology as well as choose courses to enrich their understanding of behavior or to supplement other areas of study. PSYC 101 or PSYC 102 is a prerequisite for all psychology courses at the 200-level and above: a grade of C- or higher must be earned in PSYC 101 or PSYC 102 before a student can enroll in higher-level courses in the discipline of Psychology. PSYC 290 and PSYC 291 are prerequisites for many upper-level courses. Independent Undergraduate Research or Creative Investigation
Introductory, Intermediate, Advanced, Senior Thesis Independent Research or Creative Investigation is a course in which students collaborate with faculty mentors on an ongoing faculty research project or conduct an independent project under the guidance of a faculty member. This directed undergraduate research or creative investigation culminates in a conference presentation, journal article, or other creative/scholarly project.
