LIS 730 - Cataloging and Classification

3 hours
The study of cataloging and classification systems with the primary emphasis on practical application of current standards and vocabularies such as Resource Description & Access (RDA), Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), and Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC21). The course examines the history and the principles of cataloging and classification, as well as current topics of concern within the cataloging profession. Students will catalog a variety of information resources and explore issues relevant to the material. Offered in spring.

Prerequisite(s): LIS 701 and 703
