ARTH 296 - Exploring African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Indigenous Art 3 hours This course is designed to introduce students to the history of art and architecture of major societies beyond the Western tradition. We will focus on how the subjects, styles, and techniques of these art forms reflect the diverse social customs and beliefs of African, Asian, Middle Eastern, and indigenous culture to broaden our understanding of human achievements celebrated in these parts of the world. To embrace the challenges of the 21st century, students will explore the issue of globalization, cross-cultural exchange, and gender that have changed the way we approach and interpret art across a broad range of cultures.
